The table compares the number of universities from five countries that were listed in the top 200 worldwide in 2011, across three subjects: Biology, Medicine and Psychology.
It is clear that, in the USA, the number of universities in the top 200 was higher than in other nations in all three disciplines. On the other hand, New Zealand had the fewest universities listed among the top 200.
Focusing on the larger numbers first, in 2011, the USA had the highest number of universities listed in the top 200, with 69 in Biology, 54 in Medicine, and 58 in Psychology. Moreover, in this list, the number of universities in the UK specializing in Biology, Medicine, and Psychology was higher than in the other countries, with 30, 24, and 29, respectively.
By contrast, Australia, New Zeeland and Canada had fewer top universities in these three subjects. There were 9 universities in Biology that was ranked in top 200 in both Canada and Australia. However, the numbers of Psychology universities in these two countries showed a small disparity of 3, with 14 and 17, respectively. The fewest number of universities ranked in the top 200 were in New Zealand. It occupied the lowest position on this list, with 6 in Biology, 2 in Medicine, and 4 in Psychology.
