The tables show information about sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas in five European countries in 1999 and 2004. The figures are given in millions of euros.
Overall, sales of Fairtrade coffee increased in all countries over the period. Banana sales also rose in some countries, especially in the UK and Switzerland, while they decreased in Belgium and Sweden.
In terms of coffee sales, the UK showed the most significant growth, rising from 1.5 million euros in 1999 to 20 million euros in 2004. Switzerland also experienced an increase, from 3 to 6 million euros. Coffee sales in Denmark and Belgium grew slightly, reaching 2 million and 1.7 million euros respectively. Sweden had the lowest figures, with a small rise from 0.8 to 1 million euros.
Looking at bananas, the UK had the highest sales in both years, increasing sharply from 15 million euros in 1999 to 47 million euros in 2004. Switzerland and Denmark also saw growth, with sales rising to 5.5 and 4 million euros. In contrast, banana sales in Belgium fell from 1.8 to 1 million euros, and Sweden experienced a decrease from 2 to 0.9 million euros.
