The United Kingdom’s revenue from Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas experienced a substantial surge, rising from 1.5 million euros in 1999 to 20 million euros in 2004. Conversely, Sweden and Denmark demonstrated minimal growth, with only a 0.2 million euro increase in revenue for both countries during the same period. Specifically, Sweden’s earnings grew from 0.8 million euros in 1999 to 1 million euros in 2004, while Denmark’s revenue marginally increased from 1.8 million euros to 2 million euros.
In contrast, Switzerland was the second highest earner, with a significant increase in sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas from 3 million euros in 1999 to 6 million euros in 2004. Similarly, Belgium also experienced a noticeable rise in sales, with revenue escalating from 1 million euros in 1999 to 1.7 million euros in 2004, positioning the country as the third highest-grossing in this category.
