The two maps show developments in and around Tilden Airport in the thirty-year period from 1985.
If we look at changes to the airport, the most significant developments were the building of the new runway, and the expansion of the international terminal, which likely contributed to the airport being rebranded as ‘Tilden International Airport’. By the end of the period, accessibility to the airport by public transport had improved with the addition of a bus and light rail station, connecting the airport to the city of Tilden. It is also interesting to note that, during this period, the domestic terminal was not expanded at all while the car park was only slightly enlarged.
In the area around the airport itself, there were also noticeable developments. The land in the north-east corner, which was Johnson’s farm, had been transformed into a business park and housing estate by 2015. In the same way, the factories in the south-east, had been replaced by a large building for airport support services as well as a hotel and conference centre.
Overall, significant developments took place over the period, which resulted in the creation of a larger and more international airport.
