The two maps depict the changes in Tilden Airport and the surrounding area layout in 1985 and 2015.
Overall, significant developments took place over the period. The major expansion of the airport’s operational area was achieved through the demolition of surrounding industrial and agricultural buildings, and other remarkable transformations
Noticeably, Johnson’s Farm was demolished, giving a way to a new runway, and an international terminal was expanded dramatically, which presumably resulted in the rebranding of the airport as ‘Tilden International Airport’. Similarly, the former Farm’s area was used by two new buildings: Business Park and Housing Estate.
In the lower section of the map, a minor increase in a Car Park territory can be seen. In addition, the Airport Support Services building was relocated, thereby allowing a new Bus and Light Rail Station to be constructed in its former position. The station was connected with the City of Tilden via light rail, improving accessibility to the airport. Two facroties were demolished to provide the space for the Airport Support Services building and constructing of a Hotel and Conference Centre.
