The maps illustrate the development of the town of Wetherby between 2000 and 2016.
Overall, the town experienced significant urban development during this period. Many traditional or open areas were replaced with modern residential, commercial, and technological facilities, while the main street remained the central dividing line of the town.
In 2000, the northern part of Wetherby consisted mainly of natural and low-density areas, including farmland, woodland, and a lake. There were also houses and a disused car factory. By 2016, major changes had occurred in this area. The farmland and houses were replaced by a large housing complex, while the disused car factory site was redeveloped into a techno park. Additionally, the houses were replaced with a block of flats. However, the woodland and lake remained unchanged.
In the southern section of the town, several transformations also took place. The open-air food market was converted into a supermarket, and the nearby square was redesigned with trees. The shops area became a multi-storey car park, while the house with gardens was replaced by a hotel with a spa. Despite these changes, the office block remained the same, although the cottages with gardens were removed.
Overall, Wetherby evolved from a semi-rural town into a more modern and urbanized area.
