Latin America ranked second, with an average of 45 units, 32 of which came from animal protein and the remaining 13 from other protein sources. East Africa had a lower average intake of 31 units, almost equally divided between animal and plant-based proteins, with just 1 unit more from animal protein. India’s average intake was the lowest, at 28 units, with animal protein consumption contributing only 13 units.
Turning to average calorie intake, North America led with around 3500 units, followed by Latin America, where the average was just under 3000 units. East Africa consumed slightly above 2000 units on average, while India had the lowest intake, at around 2000 units.
