Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope you are doing well.

I am writing to you as an incoming Psychology student at Manchester Metropolitan University, who intends to commence their first semester in the new year. While I was certainly grateful that my admission application explicitly granted me the opportunity to note down my preferred Hall of Residence – Romley Hall – I was still unable to relay my accommodation requirements and express my dietary concerns. Therefore, I hope this letter sheds some clarity regarding my future needs at the university.

With regards to my stay at the Romley wing, I am kindly requesting to be assigned a room that is situated on the first or second floor of the building. As I am an incoming student with a registered physical disability, my mobility aid prevents me from walking up and down several flights of stairs with complete ease. Therefore, I feel a room on a lower floor may allow me to access the park and the outdoor walking track much more conveniently than a room that is a mid-rise or a high-rise. If such a request can be fulfilled, I am confident that my lifestyle at the university will not be sedentary, as I would hope to stroll around outdoors quite frequently. I would also sincerely appreciate it if my room could face west so that I can receive plenty of natural sunlight. There are days when my condition proves to be quite debilitating and prevents me from stepping out; a gloomy environment would exacerbate that. However, I am certain that sun exposure will help to combat my Vitamin D deficiency.

In addition to my physical accommodation requests, I would like to express my dietary needs. Celiac disease- a condition that discourages gluten digestion- is a hereditary condition within my family. Although the condition is not fatal, consuming gluten triggers inflammation within my body and disrupts my gut health. As such, it is imperative that I need to maintain a relatively gluten-free diet throughout my duration at the university. Therefore, I would like to kindly request to purchase a food plan that is compatible with my dietary restrictions.

Please do let me know if the university can accommodate my requests regarding my suggested floor plan as well as my dietary concerns. However, if these requests are unable to be accommodated, what are my options? Are there elevators on all floors of the Romley Hall? Alternatively, will my health insurance cover testing for vitamin deficiencies if I am assigned a room with minimal sunlight? Lastly, are there any gluten-friendly options around campus?I look forward to attending Manchester Metropolitan University and to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Isabelle Cunnings.
