Nowadays, whether or not the advantages of translation applications outweigh that of learning a language is a controversial issue. However, I personally agree that language learning plays an important role, despite the development of translation software, and my reasons will be explained in the following paragraphs.
To begin with, there is no denying that translation applications have made language interpretation easier and more convenient since its debut. Not only do these programs translate the reading materials, they also interpret oral texts. Therefore, understanding a foreign language does not require much time that helps travelers communicate with local people in foreign countries effortlessly. However, the translating programmes occasionally produces erroneous outputs due to the context and cultural factors, which artificial intelligence commonly struggles to handle. As a result, I think learning to have a profound comprehension of a language is still more advantageous than using translation software.
In my opinion, acquiring language proficiency is among the best methods for communicating proficiently. This is because learners can have a comprehensive knowledge of a language through the learning process in which some slang words and cultural distinctions are taught. Moreover, mastering a language helps users communicate more confidently and instantaneously. For example, in a conversation with multilingual speakers, while using a translation application takes time to interpret and sometimes the output meaning is not correct, a person with a profound understanding of a language finds it effortless to translate and respond to the question promptly. Nevertheless, translation applications are the temporary solutions to understand a language because globalization and regionalization are taking place strongly, which means a person with a language fluency will have more development opportunities in both career and life. In particular, if employees have excellent linguistic abilities, they can have a better job with a higher income and more possibilities for promotion in international businesses.
In conclusion, while translation applications make it easier for non-native speakers to communicate with native speakers, learning a language will still be advantageous, especially the international language. I believe that the studying of a language can not completely be alternated by any translation software.
