Band 7+: Artists need a certain amount of freedom to develop their creativity. Some people think that artists should have total freedom to express any thoughts and ideas. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is believed by some that artists require a certain level of autonomy to nurture their creativity. I concur with this viewpoint to a certain degree, as artistic creativity is boundless and artists should be afforded a reasonable amount of freedom. However, it is imperative that the ideas and thoughts expressed by artists remain within the confines of moral and ethical principles.

Art, whether in the form of painting, music, or theatre, serves as a means of communicating a particular perspective to a wider audience. Historically, it has acted as a catalyst for societal change and has brought about awareness on issues such as gender equality, social justice, and diversity. Many works of art have played a pivotal role in shaping the current social landscape and influencing legislative changes. Consequently, “art” undeniably serves as a crucial medium of expression, and artists should possess the liberty to convey their thoughts on any subject matter without undue limitations.

However, artists should adhere to moral and societal values to ensure that their creations do not incite social unrest. The freedom granted to them pertains to the expression of their ideas, which can then be subjected to further debate and diverse perspectives by the audience. It is important to note that freedom of expression does not equate to infallibility. In the modern era, with the widespread reach of artists through online platforms, they should exercise greater responsibility in their expression. Without this sense of responsibility, the unrestrained dissemination of their work could lead to detrimental consequences for the public.

In conclusion, while I advocate for artists to have a reasonable degree of freedom in expressing their creations, they should operate within predefined boundaries and acknowledge that greater freedom necessitates greater responsibility.
