This unfettered expression not only attracts more individuals towards the arts, thereby cultivating and enriching our cultural and societal values, but also serves as a powerful tool for raising awareness about pertinent social issues and advocating for social justice. A prime illustration of this was seen in the aftermath of the tragic rape of an 8-year-old girl in India, where numerous artists channeled their emotions into songs that resonated widely on social media, galvanizing public sentiment and pressuring authorities to take swift action against the perpetrators.
Nevertheless, it is crucial that artistic creations do not sow discord or provoke violence within society. There have been instances where artworks, such as M.F. Hussain’s depictions of nude Indian Goddesses, ignited significant controversy among Hindu communities, leading to social unrest. Furthermore, the portrayal of women as mere objects of desire in various art forms can potentially have adverse effects on impressionable minds, perpetuating a culture of disrespect towards women and contributing to societal issues.
In conclusion, while a certain degree of autonomy is essential for artists to flourish, granting them unrestricted freedom may potentially result in the creation of art that has a detrimental impact on society.
