Band 7+: Cars damage the environment and their use is increasing. Why? How can this be controlled?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The growing number of car usage contributes towards environmental degradation. While some reasons can be identified as the causes of the rise in the use of cars, there are methods that can be implemented to tackle this issue.

Safety reasons and the changes in car prices have led to an increase in car ownership as well as car usage. Nowadays, more and more people are buying automobiles because it is much more affordable than in the previous days. The car market has become more competitive because new car brands are introduced frequently with a plethora of advanced features and a lower price point to attract customers. For instance, VinFast, a new automaker in Vietnam, recently introduced their electric cars in the USA with self-driving and AI assisstant, but with a cheap starting price and various promotions. Additionally, cars contain airbags and safety features such as auto brakes and 360 sensors, making it safer for the passengers when traveling.

Nevertheless, several policies can be applied to handle this problem. Firstly, the government could increase the tax on car emissions to persuade them to change to electric cars, which are more environment-friendly, or to reduce the sales of cars because of the added expenses. For example, European countries are working together to increase the taxes on fuel emissions and only allow cars with low emissions to enter the city. Secondly, improving the public transport infrastructure is also a solution to the issue. With a fast and convenient bus, subways, or trams, people will no longer have the need to purchase a car because they can just go everywhere they want in a matter of minutes, without having to drive and stuck in traffic jams.

To conclude, there are some clear reasons to explain the growth in the use of cars, but there are also solutions which can be used to combat it to protect the environment.
