Band 6+: Day 1- With the increasing use of mobile phones and computers, fewer people are writing letters. Some people think that the traditional skill of writing letters will disappear completely. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

As the frequency of use of mobile phones and computers is increasing at an unprecedented pace, the number of people writing letters is dropping tremendously. Some people hold a belief that the complete disappearance of the traditional skill of writing letters is predictable and possible. In my perspective, I totally agree with the statement as the skills of writing letters will not be needed for communication in the near future and the lack of practice will speed up the disappearance of these conventional skills for writing letters.

First of all, writing letters does not fit the modern pace for communication. Nowadays, the most common way for people to communicate with each other is writing emails and texting. In modern society, quick speed and high efficiency are the obvious priorities while people are doing business or sorting daily matters. In a company, since people will have to reply to customers’ inquiries as soon as possible to boost the efficiency, writing letters in a traditional way is no longer popular and needed. Thus, in order to fit in the modern pace for efficiency, traditional skills are facing an inevitable extinction in the foreseen future.

In addition, as writing letters is not a necessary method to communicate for most of the time at the moment, lack of practice will definitely speed up the dying of traditional skills of l writing letters. For a skill to be passed smoothly and to be used consecutively, practice by people cannot be avoided without a question. At school, computers are used more often than ever before for teachers to lecture in lessons or for students to submit their assignments. For daily uses, people are inclined to use mobile phones to set up time for gathering and to hold a conversation for daily matters. Therefore, without people’s practice on writing letters, it seems like a tricky and difficult mission to pass these skills of writing letters to future generations.

To summarize, the use of computers and mobile phones are a much more effective way to fit modern pace for communication and the lack of practice will also speed up the disappearance of the traditional skills of writing letters.
