In many organizations, managers and leaders tend to be older individuals. It is often argued that younger people can be better leaders; however, I completely disagree with this opinion. I believe that this perspective undermines productivity, as older individuals possess more experience relevant to their jobs and better communication skills for face-to-face interactions.
The first reason I believe older individuals should be managers in organizations is their experience. They have accumulated extensive knowledge about their jobs and have encountered a range of challenges throughout their careers. As a result, they can solve problems more efficiently, which saves both time and money for the company. For example, Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, has overseen the production of innovative technologies such as smartphones, laptops, smartwatches, AirPods, and computers. Since he took over management of the company, sales have skyrocketed from $108 billion in 2011 to an anticipated $416 billion in 2025. In contrast, the company Red Lobster went bankrupt while managed by a younger person, Damola Adamolekun, who sold the company due to a $1 billion debt. This demonstrates that older individuals are often better suited to lead organizations effectively.
Moreover, older people tend to have superior communication skills for face-to-face conversations. During their youth, technology was not as advanced, so they relied more on direct communication with friends, relatives, and colleagues. This reliance helped them develop strong communication skills, unlike the younger generation, who often utilize digital communication methods. As a result, older leaders are often more capable of engaging with their employees effectively, reducing misunderstandings and fostering a more productive work environment. This is the second argument supporting my position.
In conclusion, I believe that young people are not suited to be leaders. Instead, the older generation is more qualified for leadership positions. They not only improve a company’s financial performance but also create a family-like atmosphere among employees.
