Environmental problems such as changes in climate have always been a worldwide challenge because, authorities are not imposing harsh punishments against offenders. I am in strong disagreement with this notion, and this essay will explain why.
On the one hand, there are diverse reasons to believe that issues in our surrounding has been an international problem because the government is not insisting on severe actions following violations. First, if people get punished for an action, they will learn better. If a child drops a piece of paper on the walkway today, and gets flogged by his teacher, tomorrow, he would not do same. From being flogged, he has learnt that his actions were bad and unacceptable. The same goes for residents in all nations. If they get imprisoned or have to pay a huge amount for an offence committed, they will learn not to do that anymore. Secondly, the knowledge of a harsh punishment makes one cautious of his actions. Without even implementing the disciplinary actions, the government just have to acknowledge that they exist, this awareness will make citizens live more upright, and take necessary actions to prevent environmental disturbance.
On the other hand, there are reasons to disagree that national environmental issues result because of lenient interventions from management. A major point is that, climate change is not dependent on man’s action. An unpredicted hurricane, or an earth quake that destroyed buildings, and scattered waste all over the place would not have been prevented by punishing humans. In excess, man is not the primary cause of climate issues, therefore, he should not be a tool for addressing them. Another reason is that, intense actions by authorities does not necessarily command a change. People do better when they are corrected in love. This is visible today in the concept of gentle parenting adopted by many parents. When children are corrected in love, they tend to take these corrections with a open heart, compared to when they are punished for their actions. National environmental issues including change in climate would be better addressed if the government corrects it’s citizens in love.
In conclusion, while there are arguments to support the implementation of severe action on offenders by the government, as a way to curb environmental problems, I am in complete disagreement with this action.
