Language bridges individuals across the globe. Nowadays, several languages have disappeared in this modern society. It’s a shameful thing that means the fall of a civilization.
Some people consider that the disappearance of some languages is just a tiny matter for them and that fewer languages will make it convenient for them to communicate with others. As far as I am concerned, they are selfish with these thoughts. What if their language disappeared would they find it a cause for celebration? Their lack of empathy is what makes them think the fall of a civilization is not worth caring about. Although some people think that the extinction of some languages is not a serious problem, I do believe that the diversity of the world’s languages has a lot of benefits for the individual and society as well.
On the other hand, we can never deny others who believe that studying several languages is stressful and difficult. For example, learning French requires remembering the grammar usage and the spelling of the words.
As a result, it becomes a burden on other people to study the language they are not used to. Moreover, they become exhausted and confused if they are not familiar with the country’s culture. According to others, studying a single language removes communication barriers across the world. As an example, using English as a capital language unites a majority of people around the world. People using this language can easily understand each other because it is normally taught in school. If people use a single language, then communication will not be a problem.
In conclusion, I personally disagree with the opinion that with only several languages that exist in the world, life will be easier. I believe that the variety of languages shows the richness of world civilizations and they should be passed on to the next generation.
