This trend can be attributed to several factors. Primarily, the proliferation of technological gadgets such as tablets and laptops is a key driving force behind the shift away from handwriting. The speed and efficiency offered by digital typing surpass that of manual writing, enabling individuals to save significant amounts of time in both their professional and academic pursuits. Additionally, the transformation of communication platforms towards digital mediums, such as social media, has reduced the necessity for handwriting. Moreover, in the realm of education, the integration of technology has led to many affluent countries providing tablets to students, exposing them to digital writing from an early age and predisposing them to favor it over traditional methods in the future. In my view, this shift towards digital writing may have both positive and negative implications. On the one hand, digital writing can enhance work efficiency, particularly in time-sensitive contexts. Furthermore, it facilitates the storage and sharing of documents, offering conveniences that are not readily achievable with manual writing. Moreover, the conservation of the environment due to decreased paper usage is another noteworthy advantage. Conversely, the decline of handwriting represents a loss of cultural heritage and personal expression. For instance, traditional Vietnamese calligraphy embodies a rich cultural tradition that is at risk of fading with the decline of handwriting. Furthermore, manual writing allows for individual creativity and self-expression, whereas digital fonts lack the ability to capture the unique characteristics of each individual’s handwriting. In conclusion, the decline in handwriting can be primarily attributed to advancements in technology. While this trend offers various benefits, it also raises pertinent drawbacks that warrant consideration. It is imperative for society to devise appropriate measures to mitigate the potential unfavorable impacts of this shift.
