Nowadays, the act of writing by hand using a pen or pencil has become increasingly uncommon. While this problem can be attributed to the pervasive presence of technology, I strongly believe that individuals may lose important handwriting skills and spending long hours typing on computers or smartphones may lead to health issues.
One of the most compelling reasons for decreasing hand writing is the wide spread of contemporary technology. In the present day many teenagers and some old people prefer writing by smartphones, computers and tablets, because they think that it is very convenient and faster. Also, they can easily change or correct their writing. In addition, they use it everywhere and in any situation. By way of example, consider the rapid rise of communication platforms such as email, instant messaging apps, and social media. These platforms provide users with the ability to effortlessly send and receive messages, eliminating the need for handwritten letters or notes.
Despite these, the trend can bring certain negative outcomes including suffering deterioration in handwriting proficiency. Individuals use more online platforms than handwriting texts, they can lose writing skills or their thoughts may become limited when writing with a pen or pencil. As an illustration, many students nowadays rely heavily on laptops and tablets for note-taking, and as a result, they often struggle to write legibly or organize their ideas effectively when required to complete handwritten exams. Hence, while the decline in handwriting may lead to a loss of writing skills and affect one’s ability to organize thoughts on paper, the rise of digital technology also brings clear advantages.
Beyond this, another key reason for minimizing handwritten work is the potential risk of health problems. If individuals stop by hand, their memory capacity may decline, as handwriting enables people to retain information more efficiently. Furthermore, prolonged screen use can lead to eye strain and related vision problems. Namely, learners or workers who take notes on a laptop often remember less than those who write by hand, and they may also experience eye strain from staring at screens for long periods. To conclude, individuals should also write by hand from time to time.
In conclusion, although digital writing is convenient, we should still engage in handwriting periodically to maintain our cognitive and visual health.
