In recent years, there is a decrease of people visiting museums, compared to the past. In my opinion, this is caused by the lack of interest of students about history and I believe more interactive activities should be introduced by museums to solve this problem.
Nowadays, students are no longer interested in history because of the traditional and boring teaching approach professors are still using at schools. In fact, if you take a look at history lessons in Italy, most of time you just see teachers using powerpoint and books to explain concepts. This ends up in lesson where professor talk to students who do other things because they do not completely understand the importance of the historical facts.
To increase people’s interest in history, I believe interactive activities should be introduced by museums. In these activities, there is the possibility to experience by ourself some historical events. For example, if there is a section in the museum regarding English Modern Age, the staff can make up an acting activity where people are asked to play the role of important historical person, such as Queen Elizabeth I, and make decisions and actions that such people made. By doing these activities, not only the interest of people regarding history would increase, but also it would attract people to the museum to do such experience.
In conclusion, the reason fewer people visit museum in our days is the fact that schools are not able to make students interested in history, and introducing interactive activities on the museum side can solve this problem.
