Band 6+: Fewer people today visit museums than in the past. Why is this? What can be done to encourage more people to visit museums in the future?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, it is known that the number of museum visitors is lower than in the previous period. The leading cause for this phenomenon is the digitalization that has already happened worldwide regarding information access, which affects people’s interests in some offline places. Despite the modern development in the related field, the issue can still be solved by creating new activities at the museum that provide interactive value.

The modernization of the media is discouraging many people’s excitement about seeing the museum. In a short time, people can update their knowledge by searching for historical information from their devices. They don’t have to use their energy to go to the museum or spend their money to buy tickets, realizing that all can be done in a single click. For instance, current-year students can learn more about their country’s history than the museum could ever provide by searching it on Google.

However, even so, there is still a solution that can be done to overcome this problem, referring to the creation of interactive activity. Humans, as living beings, tend to get bored quickly. They need to find something new in their life, especially when learning a thing or two. In this context, there are several ways to fulfill that necessity, and one of them is by making a hologram of a historical figure. Spain became the first country to apply that method, changing the Santa Monica figure into a hologram that could answer all visitors’ questions directly.

Thus, even though the museum’s audiences are decreasing due to digitalization, a solution can be made by adjusting the development with two-way activity. As time goes by, whether we want it or not, new ways need to be discovered to maintain the history of everything in this world, especially for the sake of the younger generation.
