Band 5+: Formal examinations are the only effective way to assess a student's performance. Continual assessment such as coursework and projects is not satisfactory way to do this. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Writing and Test based examinations are the best way to assess a student’s output abilities, rather than continual assignment like course work and projects which are not satisfactory way.

I am in disagreement with this statement because abilities of someone’s is not alone based on their writing but also on the course work and projects they strive to do with their interest. Many students are not interested in their formal way of studying because they feel it boring and to avoid it, schools and colleges should provide other continual assessment to increase their productivity.

Some people will agree that the long exam is the only way to do fair evaluation of student’s knowledge but it is not the best way to do it. Yes, we need for mal examinations for fair evaluation where the student’s give their test in a guarded room without any cheating. But on the other hand, these exams are the are only testing the memory power of students whether they have memorized the lessons that were taught in the schools or classes. The only thing that formal exams are doing is making students habits to resite or memorize the notes only before that particular exam date so they have no practical knowledge on anything.

In Conclusion, formal examinations are necessary for fair evaluation but it does not test the practical knowledge the students. So, the continual assessment such as course work and projects thrives the Students to widen their imagination, increase their creativity, improves practical abilities and give them the right knowledge and experiences which will be used in their real life that can make their future bright.
