Band 8+: Housing is considered a basic human right, and some believe the government should provide free housing to all citizens who are unable to pay for it.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, it is universally believed that the provision of accommodation without payment is regarded as a fundamental human right. While some argue that there are several advantageous aspects of free housing, I am of the opinion that there are more pressing matters that significantly need handling.

On the one hand, the main explanation of proponents of the view that government-provided houses can be seen as a basic human necessity is equality. When people are allowed to live in a community house, the gap between the rich and the poor would be mitigated, reducing the homelessness rate and enhancing urban landscapes. Moreover, providing free housing can lessen the financial burden on low-income people. Rather than pouring expenses into housing, the underprivileged can allocate those spendings for other basic amenities such as education, fostering literacy and numeracy.

On the other hand, there are other urgent issues that necessitate immediate attention. Firstly, healthcare services need to be more advanced because of its paramoutcytheir paramountcy and effects on human living standards. Due to the fact that state-funded housing requires a huge amount of expenditure for infrastructure and maintenance, policy-makers should invest that budget in improving cutting-edge devices for healthcare with the aim of handling fatal diseases such as cancers or infectious diseases. Furthermore, the provision of free housing can increase people’s dependency. When all residents receive free accommodation without charges, they become overreliant on government subsidies and lack ofthe motivation to seek a job, leading to a higher unemployment rate.

In conclusion, while the goal of ensuring everyone has a place to live is commendable, the idea of providing free housing is an untenable policy. It is an unsustainable financial model that could foster dependency and lead to a decline in the overall quality of life. The government’s responsibility is not to provide free homes, but to facilitate an environment where housing is accessible and affordable for all.
