With urbanization, there has been great development of schools and hospitals in the cities, whereas the rural areas have lagged behind, thereby leading to less development and improvement in the quality of life in these areas. There is a growing argument that new teachers and doctors should work in rural areas for some years, while some believe that everyone should be free to choose where they work. In my opinion, free will is a fundamental right; therefore, people should have the freedom to select their work location.
Firstly, with a lack of medical facilities in rural areas, there would be greater mortality rates. In case of accidents, people need immediate medical attention to increase their survival chances, but this has been difficult in villages, as they have to travel to the cities to get medical attention. Another case is that of pregnancy, where the female needs monthly checkups and doctor appointments, which is a huge task for people residing in rural areas, with the need for constant commutes to cities. Other than medical facilities, the lack of schools also has its disadvantages, such as the lack of proper education for the growing generation. Without having teachers with knowledge of the latest technologies in schools, the students in villages will lack the necessary skills needed to secure a job in the future.
Even with all these problems, it is not right to impose restrictions on a person’s career. Forcing someone to work in faraway places, away from their loved ones, will demotivate them and reduce their efforts in their professions. Moreover, everyone has their own plans and visions for the future, which will be halted if they are forced to take a different path. Rather than forcing teachers and doctors, the government should provide incentives and other facilities, which makes the offer attractive. Subsequently, people will be willing to choose these places of work and will remain happy.
To sum up, there are a lot of disadvantages to the lack of proper education and medical facilities in villages, but forcing teachers and doctors is not the solution. The government should put effort into popularizing the jobs in such places, thereby making them a popular choice of work among doctors and teachers.
