Nowadays, stress has become one of the biggest issues in society, and it is becoming more severe every year. Many people around the world experience stress for different reasons, but the main causes are intense competition, global instability, and idealised images from social media. This essay will also suggest possible solutions.
Education and access to the internet have allowed people to gain knowledge and learn from experts worldwide, but this has led to competition for grants and well-paid jobs. For example, in Kazakhstan, studying for free at top universities in Astana required a score of 112 on the UNT test in 2022-2023, which increased by almost 12% to 125 points in 2024-2025. Within two years, already competitive majors became even more demanding, causing significant stress among students. Global instability also contributes to stress, as ongoing conflicts and economic issues create fear and uncertainty about the future. Additionally, social media promotes idealised lifestyles and unrealistic achievements. Videos on TikTok and Instagram showing teenagers buying apartments at a young age can lead viewers to doubt their own success, negatively affecting their self-concept.
Despite all these factors, it is possible to find effective ways to address this problem. Governments around the world should take several actions to solve it. They should provide more grants for students and create additional workplaces to ensure opportunities for everyone. Moreover, governments should implement measures to control inflation and maintain a sense of stability for their citizens. In addition, it is important to restrict misleading content on the internet that can negatively affect people’s self-concept.
In conclustion, the emergence of stress can have various causes, but the most significant ones can be addressed if the government implements appropriate measures.
