In recent years, people started living alone in a small household rather than in large, extended families. While this change has some benefits, I believe it is mostly a negative development because it affects social relationships and emotional wellbeing.
One advantage of living in a smaller households is that people can gain more independence, as they make their own decisions about work, studies and daily life ,without consideration of many family members. In addition, small households are often easier to manage financially, allowing families to save up for the future or spend more on personal interests and leisure activities, such as gym, painting, knotting.
However there are significant disadvantages that comes in the cost of that. Living away from extended family can lead to loneliness and lack of emotional support. In large families, members help each other with childcare, household chores, and offer guidance during difficult times. Without this network, people might feel isolated and stressed because they must handle all responsibilities on their own.
Moreover, smaller households can weaken family ties and traditions. In extended families, older generations pass on cultural knowledge and values to younger members. If families become fragmented, younger generations may miss out on these lessons, which can reduce the sense of identity and community.
In conclusion, although living alone or in small families offers greater freedom and financial convenience, the social and emotional disadvantages outweigh these benefits.
