Band 8+: In some areas of the US, a ‘curfew’ is imposed, in which teenagers are not allowed to be out of doors after a particular time at night unless they are accompanied by an adult. In the United States of America, there are areas where teenagers cannot spend time outdoors in the evening. After a specific time, they can be outside only assisted by adults. I agree that such a “curfew” is beneficial for both adults and teenagers because it prevents the latter from getting into trouble.

The years of early adolescence and the average adolescence are known as particularly hard to go through because of extreme hormonal changes that result in an emotional roller coaster. Teenagers can behave in an unpredictable and dangerous way and harm themselves and others. Aiming to impress their peers or test their limits, youngsters can commit short-sighted acts, such as trying alcohol and drugs, fighting with each other, and joyriding. Thus, permanent control of adults prevails over addictions and harmful behavior.

Easily manipulated and out of adults’ control, the juvenile is an easy prey for criminals. According to the law, youth have less severe punishment than adults. For that reason, juveniles are at high risk of being involved in criminal gangs or suspicious groups. Teenagers’ crime is usually not punished; thus, adults use them to commit illegal acts to avoid justice. For instance, school students are often involved in drug dealing because they are not tried as adults, and such a channel of distribution can last longer. Criminals can use youth’s credulity and stealth while involving them in such illegal activities as prostitution.

To sum up, the curfew prevents adolescents from acts they may regret later on. Being under adults’ control, juveniles would not be involved in criminal activities or harm themselves or others. Moreover, adults can provide them with a pleasurable and valuable way of spending time that will contribute to teenagers’ proper development and better future.

The freedom of going out is banned for adolescents without the presence of an adult in some regions of the United States. Teenage is the most sensitive and rebellious period of human […]

Everybody craves freedom, even teenagers. Even though people might believe tha the implementation of the curfew in some areas of the US for teenagers at night is against the principle of freedom, I believe it is a great initiative because it provides a safety net for them against crime and prevents them from getting into […]
