Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 5+: In some countries, parents are choosing to teach children themselves at home instead of sending them to school. Do the advantages of homeschooling outweigh the disadvantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Recently in some developing nations, there has been a growing trend of parents wanting to educate their children themselves at home rather than relying on school’s programmes and professors. In this essay, I will explain my views on both sides whether the benefits of home education outweigh its contrasts.

To begin with, homeschooling is a great method for children with special abilities which require a different curriculum than that of school. It would be easier for the parents to organise a lecture that is suitable for their strengths and preferences; moreover, children who get homeschooled can gain more experience and knowledge through outdoor classes. For instance, they can obtain more soft skills by attending social events for networking and critical thinking skills since there are dozens of projects made for children to explore their inner strengths. Furthermore, their physical and mental health will also be secure because their mean peers can affect them when they are at home. Tons of teenagers have been through bullying and struggle to get their life together due to early trauma, so homeschooling can be considered a great way to prevent this.

On the other perspective, home education is not always the best solution of them all since it can impact many aspects of the child’s life. With that being said, parents, who do not often have a PhD in teaching education, will lack the ability of teaching as well as qualified teachers at school, even when they set up special lectures for their child it will have some mistakes and the child’s learnings will become more difficult. Not only the child’s education gets affected but also the household’s financial situation gets in more trouble as one of the parents have to quit their job to be at home full time; besides, education equipment and extracurricular trip fees are extremely expensive so in some families this can be a huge burden on the breadwinner.

In conclusion, parents should think carefully about whether to let their child take education at school since homeschooling has its own good and bad sides. They should consider their circumstances before deciding anything that may determine their child’s future.
