Is is believed that children should aware of the difference between right and wrong at a young age. People also assume that the children should be punished so it could help them to learn this distinction. Personnally, I am not on the same side with those who claim that punishment is necessary for children. If there is punishment, it should not be harmed to the children mental health.
There are some justifications why children are not allowed to get punishment at an early age. First and foremost, any kinds of punishment like shouting, insulting, and grounding can really affect children’s behaviour and mind. Children at an early age usually make mistake because their brains are not fully developed, leading to unwell behaviour. However, every time they do the wrong things, they understand that they will get punishment, so they may pretend to do right things in front of their parents. This is not only causing the bad effect on children’s thought, but also the children might learn to fake their behaviour.
Some sort of harmless punishment should be implicationed by the parents so the children can distinguish between bad and good things. Parents can use a lower tone but strong and persuasive enough to teach their children instead of yelling. Moreover, the other ways to punish the children without harming them is to let them take the responsibilities for their action. For instance, when the children spill a cup of water intentionally, the parents could warn them so they know it is a bad attitude, after that the parents can tell them to clean the mess on their own.
In conclusion, I am convinced that it is vital for children to learn the distinction between right and wrong at an early age, but not all the punishment are encouraged to help the children to learn the difference. Therefore, some sort of punishment that does not have bad effect on children should be allowed to use to teach children good behavior by teachers and parents.
