The advancement of technology had led many to anticipate a significant increase in leisure time for individuals in the 21st century. From my perspective, this prediction lacks complete truthfulness as it holds validity only in specific areas where modern equipment assists in daily activities. However, in a continually evolving society, the majority of people find themselves with less spare time compared to the past, largely due to heightened competition, peer influences, and evolving lifestyles.

Technology has fundamentally transformed various facets of life, enabling individuals to work and study with enhanced efficiency and speed. In the past, individuals predominantly engaged in agricultural work using rudimentary tools, resulting in prolonged hours spent on farming tasks. Similarly, homemakers dedicated extensive hours to manual housework. Consequently, manual labor was laborious and consumed considerable time, leaving scarce opportunities for leisure pursuits and relaxation. Conversely, in the contemporary era, significant time savings are evident due to the expedited nature of automated tools, facilitating faster task completion round-the-clock and thereby enabling higher productivity within the same timeframe.

Notwithstanding technological advancements, a multitude of individuals today find themselves constrained in terms of leisure time owing to the competitiveness prevalent in the employment sector. Presently, individuals harbor apprehensions regarding job security, given the increasing incorporation of robots that are displacing human workers across various domains, heightening the competition in the labor market. Consequently, individuals are compelled to invest additional time in acquiring new skills to safeguard their employment or resort to prolonged working hours in part-time capacities to sustain themselves financially.

In conclusion, the anticipation of increased leisure time for individuals in the 21st century is partially realized; technological progress not only aids in time-saving through task automation but also presents a risk to employment security, leading to heightened competitiveness in the job market.
