Although I do not think online shopping will completely replace offline shopping, I do believe that this trend is a positive development.
The first reason is that shopping online is much more convenient for people than shopping in a physical store. It is easier to compare the prices of products from different providers. By doing so, people can avoid buying things at a higher cost, which is a good way to save money. And online shopping is also time-saving. Many sales information can be browsed just on people’s computers or smartphones, and this is vital for modern society because the pace of life in cities is becoming faster and faster, and online shopping can meet people’s needs without going to the real store. For example, when people need to work overtime, they can order dinner online and continue to focus on their jobs, which is a way commonly seen for many office workers. Furthermore, the rise of online shopping has created many jobs for people, and in this aspect, it has contributed to the social economy. For the last decade, the delivery industry has been growing into a huge market in China, and this is obviously highly connected with the trend of online shopping.
However, we cannot deny that online shopping has its drawbacks in people’s lives. It reduces opportunities for physical activities because people who used to shop online do not need to go out; they can order almost anything they want online. And this tendency encouraged a sedentary lifestyle, which has been proven unhealthy in many scientific research studies. Also, shopping online creates people’s screen time, and this behavior can lead to bad eyesight or myopia.
In conclusion, online shopping definitely has some negative impact on people’s lives, but the convenience it brings and its benefits for social economies are huge. Therefore, I believe that online shopping is a positive development for the world.
