There is a view that maintaining public libraries is a waste of money because modern technologies perform the same purpose. I completely agree with this notion as public libraries often represent an inefficient use of both time and financial resources.

This is because the internet provides access to a vast range of information, including numerous e-books. Moreover, many e-books are available free of charge, which makes them highly accessible. For example, platforms such as Google provide a wide selection of digital books at no cost. One major benefit of e-books is their convenience – they are easy to access and simple to read. By contrast, many books in libraries are outdated and difficult to use. Therefore, e-books are a more effective option for people who enjoy reading.
Additionally, visiting libraries is not an efficient way to spend time, as it often involves extra expenses, such as transportation, and access to books is not always free. In many cases, readers are not allowed to take books home; even when borrowing is permitted, additional fees may apply. Online platforms, on the other hand, allow people to read instantly via the internet using devices such as laptops and mobile phones. As a result, an increasing number of individuals prefer reading e-books to visiting libraries.
In conclusion, modern technologies provide the same information as public libraries in a more practical and cost-effective way. In my view, e-books are a better alternative to reading in libraries.
