In today’s world, many adults prefer spending their free time playing computer games. Although I admit the positive aspect such as stress relief, I believe this is a negative development since it can reduce real-life social interaction.
There are several positive aspects of adults playing computer games in their free time. One of them is that it helps reduce stress. In other words, when adults finish a long and tiring day, they often fell stressed because of several responsibilities such as deadlines, meetings and so on. So, in that case, playing computer games helps them switch off from these problems for a short time instead of thinking about work or pressure, their attention moves to the game, which is fun and engaging. As a result, they may feel more refreshed and emotionally balanced. For instance, after finishing a 9-hor office job, a man plays PUBG for one hour. During that time, he stops thinking any deadlines or meetings and just focuses on the game. So, he temporarily forget stress and feel relaxed by focusing on something enjoyable.
Even though stress relief is a positive trend, I believe this is a negative development for a single reason. It can reduce real-life communication skills. To explain, when adults spend a lot of time playing games, their attention becomes focused on the virtual world. In games, they talk to teammates online, complete missions and get rewards. This feels exciting and easy, so they may start preferring it over real conversations. Real-life communication requires effort like going out, listening carefully, and responding properly. But in games, interaction is faster and less demanding. As a consequence, they naturally spend less time with family members at home, less time meeting friends in person, and less time talking colleagues outside work. For example, they may become less confident in face-to-face conversations, or they may struggle to express ideas clearly in real situations because they are more used to short and simple online communication.
In conclusion, I acknowledge the positive side as stress relief and short-term relaxation. However, I firmly believe this is a negative trend since excessive gaming can reduce real-life social interaction and weaken communication skills over time.
