Zoos are a widely debated issue in today’s society. While some people argue that zoos should be closed, others believe that zoos have a positive impact. This essay will discuss both perspectives before concluding with my own opinion.
Those who support closing zoos argue that animals should live in nature. This is because they are not meant to be in a cage, which makes them stressed and lacking freedom. For example, zoos do not have sufficient budgets to look after animals, which means they do not get the right amount of food. Some animals are raised in narrow and dirty cages. As a result, they believe that animals may be sick or die prematurely when they feel depressed during the time visitors stare at them. It is seen as more animal cruelty than education. While this perspective has some merit, it overlooks certain important considerations.
On the other hand, I strongly believe that zoos have an advantageous impact. This is primarily because zoos can help in the conservation of endangered species and also be a learning resource for kids and people to understand more about nature and the environment. For instance, some zoos have projects to breed endangered animals and return them to nature when they are ready. Therefore, endangered animals have a high chance of survival, and their number is increasing.
In conclusion, while each perspective offers substantial advantages, it also presents considerable challenges. However, after considering the arguments on both sides, I believe that zoos should remain open for the conservation of endangered animals and as learning resources.
