Many individuals consider that the most beneficial response to high level of violent crime is to make the length of prison sentences longer. However, other individuals consider that longer prison sentences do nothing to decrease number of crime. In my perspective, boosting the length of prison sentences does not address number of crime. I believe that due to some policies for crime and prison sentences, and the difference of cognitions between criminals and non-criminals.
The length of prison sentences can be removed or shorter by paying money, or behave well while people who commited crime are in prisons. Even if the prison sentences were longer than one hundred years, criminals can ask people who are not in a prison to pay money to get out. Also, some criminals can be free before the prison sentence ends because they behaved well when they are in a prison. Therefore, crime will not be decreased whether the length of prison sentences increased.
Most of criminals have some mental issued or cognitive issues. The kind of problems can lead to cmmitting crime. People with normal cognition are able to judge what is good or bad, and not do negative things that give negative effects on themselves. On the other hand, individuals with cognitive issues can make mistakes to judge things. That can cause to terrible crime. Those issues are challenging torecognise from others, thereby committing crime. Those people commit crime whether theybget consequences.
According to two reasons that I mentioned, long prison sentences cannot remove high level of violent crime because the length can be shorter or removed by finanicial supports or criminals’ positive behaviours, and criminals’ psychological problems can increase the rate of crime and don’t matter whether the prison sentences is long.
