It is often argued that in the contemporary world, people are becoming less interested in theatres and cinemas since they can easily access all the entertainment online. However, others believe that theatres and cinemas play a crucial role in today’s world economically and culturally. From my perspective, I partly agree with both statements; individuals can access all the entertainment through social platforms without physically coming to the area in modern times. However, people still enjoy the atmosphere of watching things in a more realistic setting.
On the one hand, social platforms have led people to be entertained online rather than experiencing the atmosphere in person. This is mainly because it has become easier to access entertainment, such as movies, TV shows, and opera, from the comfort of home. Furthermore, in modern times, individuals tend to have a hectic schedule compared to past decades because of traffic congestion and other responsibilities of work and life; because of that, they are more willing to stay at home watching entertainment online. As a result, the number of visitors to theatres and cinemas has decreased compared to past generations.
On the other hand, in the contemporary era, there are still a significant number of people who are willing to visit entertainment venues. The main reason is that the atmosphere of these facilities contributes to significant changes in our mental well-being. For example, if we watch movies on a big screen with our loved ones while surrounded by people who have the same interests, without being distracted by anything, we may feel a great sense of belonging in that specific social setting.
In conclusion, the way we watch all entertainment might have changed by several factors, such as social platforms and our lifestyles, compared to past decades. Nevertheless, theatres and cinemas still play an important role in our social life and mental well-being.
