Band 7+: Nowadays most green energy is becoming evermore prevalent in both developed and developing countries. Some argue they greatly reduce costs and are better for the environment, others believe they are a serious threat to energy security. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

In today’s ever-changing world, the topic of renewable energy versus fossil fuels is increasingly relevant, raising questions that require thoughtful consideration of different perspectives. Some argue that renewable energy significantly reduces costs and benefits the environment, while others express concerns about energy security. Personally, I strongly advocate for the adoption of renewable energy sources. This essay will examine both viewpoints, provide my own perspective, and conclude with constructive insights.

On one hand, the world is gradually moving towards greater use of renewable energy instead of oil, gas, and petroleum. One key reason for this shift is that renewable resources have a smaller impact on the planet’s atmosphere and can be reused indefinitely. For example, solar panels harness energy whenever sunlight is available, and they do not produce harmful gases that contribute to air pollution. To summarize, hydropower, solar energy, and biogas are effective and environmentally friendly options for humanity.

On the other hand, it is important to acknowledge that renewable resources are heavily dependent on weather conditions and cloud cover, which can affect their efficiency. If weather conditions are not favorable or temperatures are unsuitable, the overall power output can drop significantly, leading to potential blackouts. For instance, a few years ago in Texas, unfavorable weather resulted in a two-week electricity shortage. However, after examining both sides of the debate, I believe that, in light of future considerations, renewable energy will emerge as the superior option.

In conclusion, both arguments have their merits; however, it is crucial to recognize that the Earth has a limited capacity for carbon emissions. Therefore, fossil fuels should be used sparingly and within essential limits to ensure a sustainable future.
