Band 8+: Nowadays, there is an increase in social problems including teenagers. Many people think that it is because parents spend more time at work and less time with children. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In contemporary society, there has been a notable surge in the prevalence of social issues affecting adolescents. A prevailing notion is that this trend can be attributed to parents dedicating less time to their children due to work obligations. I firmly support this viewpoint and will elaborate on it in the subsequent paragraphs.

To commence, contemporary parents are increasingly inclined to engage in prolonged work hours in pursuit of greater financial stability. Nonetheless, the prevalent culture of overtime has had a detrimental effect on familial dynamics, particularly with respect to children and teenagers. Consequently, this gives rise to diminished familial interaction, resulting in a myriad of issues. Research indicates that limited communication between parents and their children often leads to the suppression of the latter’s thoughts and emotions, subsequently precipitating a host of problems such as social anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, and depression.

Offspring raised by work-focused parents often lack emotional attention and are frequently neglected. This contributes to the development of socially inappropriate behavior and heightened impulsiveness. Moreover, young adults frequently engage in delinquent activities and become ensnared in the grip of deleterious substance abuse due to inadequate supervision by their parents. Consequently, there has been a surge in instances of theft, sexual misconduct, and vandalism.

In conclusion, the professional commitments of parents profoundly impact family dynamics and the well-being of their children. Offspring raised with minimal parental supervision and guidance often develop problematic behaviors and social maladjustment. It is essential for parents to strike a balance between work and family to ensure the holistic development and well-being of their children.
