People prefer to shop and buy products near their homes. Additionally, the money stays in the region and helps support farmers and small businesses. This also means new jobs for citizens. Local products are not transported from far away, so they are usually fresher and tastier. Farmers always grow food naturally without using chemicals like pesticides or artificial fertilizers. For instance, farmers always have fresh milk, cheese, cottage cheese, and etc. Their food helps citizens’ bodies to stay healthy and grow. Many people buy organic food, which is rich in nutrients and beneficial for health. Thus, they support the local economy as governments and farmers.
However, this does not change the fact that there are limited choices, especially when people are used to many varieties. Not all products can be produced locally, and if they are produced, the price will be high. Local products are sometimes more expensive due to smaller production volumes. For example, tropical fruits from other countries, such as bananas, coconuts, coffee, and seafood, present difficulties, and the price will be high. Citizens who do not have financial stability and a high salary won’t be able to buy these.
