In present-day society, there is a debate about whether schools should offer subjects that do not have a direct impact on students’ future career success. In my opinion, subjects such as music and sports are just as necessary as any other academic subjects, and I strongly disagree with the belief that they should be eliminated.
Students need music and sports classes as much as they need traditional subjects. For example, sports provide essential physical activity for students, particularly for younger ones. Without an outlet for their energy, many students find it challenging to concentrate on subjects like mathematics or science. Sports help release this excess energy. Consider a boy who struggles to focus during tests; his high energy levels lead him to distract his classmates with chatter. Conversely, if he attends a sports class first thing in the morning, it may help him settle down and improve his concentration.
Moreover, it is widely acknowledged that not every student excels in every subject. It is perfectly normal for a student to have a particular interest in music or sports and to aspire to a career in those fields. Take the example of Robert Schumann, a renowned composer. His parents pressured him to pursue law, despite his natural talent for composing music. Without the music classes he attended, he might never have been discovered as a musician.
In conclusion, non-academic subjects can have a life-changing impact on students. Therefore, rather than being canceled, these subjects should be encouraged.
