Band 6+: Should long-term job seekers in receipt of government benefits be made to do voluntary work so that they give something back to the community? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Long-term job seekers who receive government benefits should contribute to their communities through voluntary work, but it is also the government’s responsibility to provide job opportunities. Government benefits are a form of support for individuals who are unemployed, and while receiving these benefits, job seekers should assist the community by engaging in short-term voluntary work, such as cleaning the town or managing waste.

Firstly, the government must create job opportunities for its citizens. Providing benefits to long-term job seekers is part of the government’s responsibility, but job seekers should also actively seek employment opportunities beyond those offered by the government. For instance, they can explore vacancies from private businesses or entrepreneurs that require skilled and qualified workers with a good attitude. Additionally, the government should collaborate with business owners to create more job opportunities for the people in their region.

Secondly, once long-term job seekers secure employment, they should contribute to the nation by paying taxes. These taxes are crucial as they help the government fund essential public services and infrastructure, such as benefits for other job seekers, support for the homeless, schools, hospitals, roads, and bridges.

In conclusion, the government should work with entrepreneurs to create more job opportunities while job seekers should also cooperate by participating in voluntary work to give back to the community. Once employed, they should pay taxes to support their country’s development and the well-being of its citizens.
