Laws and rules are regulated to cause harmony and discipline in the society. I completely agree with the given statement that by the absence of regulations and allowing people to do anything as they wish, chaos and confusion would happen.
To begin with, laws are made for humans to function in an orderly manner and a society can not be civilized without regulations. To achieve this, individuals should follow some rules, such as respecting each other’s right, lives and property. Without these laws, a society will surely fail. Furthermore, if individuals were given the allowance to do what they want to do, then many people would fall into bad habits and may have bad vices and as a result, with a majority of people disrespecting other’s rights, a civilized society will never happen. For instance, a neighbor who wants to play music with a high volume, disrespects the right of other neighbors.
Secondly, many laws are for individuals safety. Regulations such as, criminal law, corporate law and civil law, are regulated in order to make the society safer. By people being free to do as they wish, the society and the individuals lives would be in peril. Not only do these rules give people safety, but they also deter those who want to commit felonies. For instance, many drivers are wary of their speed, because they know that if they pass the speed limit, they will be punished. This also leads to a fewer number of accidents caused by reckless drivers.
Admittedly, law can not be absolute and needs to be amended with the changing world and social demands. To explain better, some laws which were regulated many years ago, are now completely altered. As an example, women did not have the right to vote many years ago, but now there is no such rules.
To conclude, I believe that laws are mostly helpful for the society. Due to the fact, that they make a society civilized and also they bring safety.
