Extended time in jail can also keep dangerous segments away from society thus facilitating a safe and healthy environment and promoting the development of local business. For instance, giving long sentences to gang members in South American countries can ensure a safer life by alleviating the risk of consuming weapons and drugs.
However, providing education for prisoners should be conducted as it heightens awareness of committing a crime.
