Some people argue that pollution and overcrowding will make most cities unlivable, others believe that technological progress will effectively solve these challenges. This essay will discuss both side of this statement before giving my opinion that agree with technology can significantly improve urban living.
On the one hand, people believe that air pollution can lead to serious health problems. Heavy traffic contribute to poor air quality and overcrowding of city. With increases of citizen pressure on public services also growed. For example, residents face long commuting times, traffic congestion and a shortage of affordable housing. If these trends continue, urban life may indeed become unsustainable.
On the other hand, proponents of technological innovation claim that modern solutions can overcome these urban challenges. Advances in renewable energy, such as solar and wind power, can reduce pollution levels, while electric vehicles help lower emissions from transport. Furthermore, smart city technologies allow governments to manage traffic flow, waste disposal and energy consumption more efficiently. Cities like Singapore already use digital systems to optimise public transport and reduce congestion, demonstrating that technology can greatly enhance the quality of urban life.
In my opinion, although pollution and overcrowding pose serious threats, technological innovation offers a more convincing solution. However, technology alone is not enough; it must be combined with effective urban planning and government regulation. If implemented wisely, technological advancements can transform cities into cleaner, more efficient and more livable environments.
