Some people argue that technology is making people less connected while others believe that it has made communication easier. This essay discusses both perspectives before explaining why i support the latter.
Some people believe that technology is making people less socially connected because people prefer online communication rather than face-to-face communication. As people actively choose to communicate online, real interactions are lost and social connection is compromised. As a result, people start becoming more introverted and communication is bound to online only. For example, people who prefer online communication often find it difficult to make friends in real life. Hence, online communication makes people more separated from each other rather than bringing them together. However, I disagree with this statement as supervised use of online communication can have more benefits than harm.
I believe that technology has made communication easier because it easily connects people living far away. Through the use of social media, individuals can easily communicate with each other without the need of being physically present. As a result, bonds aren’t compromised regardless of how far away two people live. For instance, students who travel abroad for studies can communicate with their parents easily no matter the distance. Thus, online communication is essential to preserve bonds that would have otherwise been broken.
In conclusion, although excessive reliance on online communication can negatively impact social relations, online communication is necessary in order to preserve the relations of people living far away.
