Some people assume that “once a person becomes a criminal he will always be a criminal”, in my opinion I partially agree and disagree with the statement.

In my view when a person engages himself in petty offences like pick pocketing, shoplifting or heinous crimes like murder, rape, kidnapping or trafficking, all these perpetrators are criminals and are danger to the society.

Even though at times they can be bad influence to the society, we should also look in to other aspect also. Just lika coin has two sides, we should also consider other factors like his social and family background, environment he has grown and his mental status that could be a contributing factor instead of just judging and tagging a person as criminal. For e.g. we have seen in our society where some of them after serving their jail sentences have reformed themselves and turned out to be a responsible and productive citizens of the society.

On the other hand offenders who have perpetrated a heinous crime have high probability to repeat the same nature of crimes after being rehabilitated back to the society. For example if a person was involved in heinous crime like rape or murder because of his hatred towards the society or a particular section of society where they have no regret regarding the crimes they have carried out. In fact they believe that the violence they have enacted was rightful thing and they show no remorse towards it. It is also because of such people who pose a threat to the society and are more prone to repeat such crimes.

In my conclusion I would like to state that each and every one should be equally responsible citizen by creating an enabling environment for the offenders so that they are not stigmatized and discriminated based on their past crimes so are given equal opportunity so that they can become a productive and responsible citizens.
