On the one hand, the government plays a vital role in dramatically reducing crime. In fact, it should uproot the causes of crime. Therefore, it should take measures to tackle social problems. Poverty, homelessness, financial issues, and joblessness can lead to crime. These problems should be addressed to some extent through social services such as providing decent housing, increasing job opportunities, and enhancing equal opportunities, especially educational facilities. The government, for instance, should manage the budget in a way that enables all people from different walks of life to enjoy higher standards of life. Norway is a typical example in this issue. People have equal opportunities in all aspects of life, so the crime rate is below zero. There is a direct link between the crime rate and social stability. If the government provides golden opportunities for everyone, the crime rate will decline.
On the other hand, personal character plays a prominent role in vice and crime. Indeed, personal laziness, disorders, and frustration can contribute to higher crime rates. In other words, when there are enough facilities to improve the level of life, some people do not want to use them. Addiction, alcohol use, and involvement in gangs are some of the reasons that can cause higher crime rates. Also, if people become addicted, they can only think about using their drugs, leading them to commit crime to meet their needs.
As a consequence, reducing social norms will never happen unless both the people and the government take steps in the right way. People are more likely to enjoy justice and equal opportunities that the government should provide. Additionally, people should keep a balance between enjoying themselves and fulfilling their duties in society.
