Some people argue that animal testing for medical research is cruel and unnecessary, while others say that it’s crucial for testing medicines on mammals before human uses them. From my perspective, testing medicines on animals plays an integral role in research for industry, despite the drawbacks it brings.
On the one hand, several people have ethical concerns that subjecting animals to experimentation is morally wrong. The experiments on animals may cause many negative effects involving pain, distress, or even death; therefore, it’s wrong to sacrifice mammals for research purposes. Moreover, animal testing is sometimes unreliable result due to physical differences between human and animals, as the result, it does not accurately predict human responses and limits the applicability of findings from animal studies compared to the human condition. A good example of this is some industries focus on producing medications to help patients, but these drugs may also have undesirable side effects.
On the other hand, despite animal testing for medicines is cruel, there are also essential to consider applying for human use. The primary reason to support this phenomenon is safety evaluation. Assessing the safety of new drugs through identifying the potential of the toxic level in medications in order to ensure no underlying risks before testing on human. Furthermore, due to testing new drugs on human consists of the factor of ethical considerations, preliminary testing on animals is a significant way to provide information about potential endanger and benefits.
In conclusion, although some people think the benefits of animal testing for new medications are guaranteed and the cost to mammals is a significant amount of money, I believe that there are more benefits of animal experimentation for drugs than the drawbacks.
