Band 6+: Some people say that technologies such as mobile phones are disrupting social interaction. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The use of technology has become a necessity in daily life, particularly with regard to mobile phones. In addition to the comfort and ease it provides, some worry that social connections have been impacted by technology. In this essay, I’ll discuss my opinions on how using a phone while interacting with others affects things. Since technology can facilitate human engagement in this situation, even when it is done remotely. On the other hand, social connection could potentially be directly hampered by technology.

I can see from these two effects that mobile phones have both positive and harmful effects. On the one hand, it’s true that smartphones have altered how we communicate. We can still contact with family and friends across great distances thanks to social media and SMS. Furthermore, because we can maintain social contacts and adhere to social distance standards using cell phones, they have become an indispensable tool during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our social relationships are broadened by the ability to communicate with individuals from many backgrounds and cultures via mobile phones.

But the convenience of digital communication also begs questions about how technology may affect in-person interactions. Many contend that as people’s attention shifts toward their smartphones, in-person conversation is declining. People may prefer to skim through their phones rather than engage with those around them, possibly missing out on meaningful conversation.

In conclusion, how technology is used determines how it affects social interaction. Mobile phones have the potential to foster lasting relationships and enhance communication when used responsibly.
