A sense of security is a primal need of all human beings. Not surprisingly, people at all times have demanded different means of punishment for those who do not obey the legal rules. A large number of people believe that the restoration of death penalty can make our lives more peaceful and secure. In my opinion, the accomplishment of safety in society does not require the restoration of death penalty for various reasons.
Firstly, the restoration of death penalty does not seem to be beneficial to society, as it does not significantly reduce the number of criminals. There are several countries in the world that have the death penalty. Many governments believe that the threat of death by law will deter other people who may be considering committing serious crimes. However, statistics show that these countries do not have lower crime rates than those without death penalty. Studies confirmed that the restoration of death penalty will not reduce crime rates, hence, it will not make people’s lives safer.
Secondly, I believe that this law can make people more violent. Some individuals may think that they have the right to end the life of someone who breaks the law, since this is how the government deals with criminals. Educating people and addressing mental health issues can be more effective in reducing crime rates.
Finally, in my personal view, killing those who have committed major crimes such as murder, human trafficking, global fraud, will serve as salvation for these criminals, while the victims will continue to suffer from the consequences of these crimes. Instead, I propose to engage them in labor while serving their sentences, which can lead to good behavior and improved emotional well-being, and may help them resettle in society and lead a law-abiding life after release.
In conclusion, I oppose the idea of the restoration of death penalty to ensure a safe life, owing to the reasons stated above.
