Of late, there has been a stark polarisation between two sections of consumers whether one day delivery facilities are beneficial for environment or not. This essay will consider a possible debate before arriving at an apt conclusion.
On the one hand, those who advocate the idea of fast shipping often claim that quicker deliveries can provide them any goods or medicines, especially for senior citizens. This means that if a person is facing a high fever or constipation issue then they can order the drugs with a single click and have it in few hours.
For instance, a recent study by Consumer’s World Organisation in 2020 show that more than 60% of consumers are willing to opt for faster deliveries. Furthermore, they also argue that while the quick delivery services are much more costlier than the normal ones still they are likely to select this option as it is a common practice for an individual who is an affluent person. In other words, if a person is rich then they might not have any constraint about money so they would be more likely to opt for this facility.
Conversely, it can be said that such faster deliveries may have a negative consequence on the country as well as on the world too. These next-day delivery options can disturb the environment by the consumption of fuel used by aeroplanes or trains to travel more often than they travel normally. For example, in order to get a product delivered faster, the vehicle is used to transport the product from warehouse to the delivery address which consumes more fuel, ultimately hindering the environment. Moreover, if a consumer will not choose next-day delivery option, then their demand for the product may get steeped. In addition, there will be fewer such products in our surrounding which may demolish the global warming such as refrigerators that emit CLF’s which affect the ozone layer by a great proportion.
To conclude, it seems to me that despite the claims made favouring utility of the next day delivery by old citizens, the fact remains that its impacts on environment in terms of increased carbon footprints or further depletion of the ozone layer severely reduce the possibilities of entertaining it in a long run.
